An on-call member of the Mercy Stroke Team responds promptly when notified of a patient exhibiting symptoms of stroke. The team member conducts a detailed assessment of the patient and, with permission of the primary physician, advises hospital staff on the best treatment for that individual patient. The goal is to stabilize the patient's condition and reduce the risk of further injury.
Within the first few days of a stroke, the patient will be admitted to the hospital. Once the patient's condition is stable, appropriate rehabilitative care will be recommended.
